Barclays is set to become the first UK High Street bank to accept Bitcoin by allowing charities to receive donations in the digital currency.
According to an article in The Sunday Times, it has entered into a partnership with a Bitcoin exchange and is prepping a roll-out of the service by the end of the year. The bank currently has around 75 staff looking into the virtual currency and block chain at its London offices. It is also pursuing a proof of concept with European exchange and services provider Safello, and in March announced that three Bitcoin firms had entered into its FinTech accelerator initiative.
