500 FinTech teams set for Barclays hackathon

An estimated 500 teams and over 1,000 internal and external developers are expected to take part in a hackathon by Barclays Bank and API security firm Akana this weekend.

The event, which will take place in both Manchester and Mumbai, is intended to give startups and FinTech ventures the opportunity to showcase their innovations to the bank, as well as supporting partners – including Amazon Web Services, Google, Twitter, IBM and Microsoft.

The hackathon offers consumer banking, corporate banking and payments technology to encourage innovation across a broad area of FinTech challenges.

The bank will be using Akana to host the relevant Barclays APIs on its platform for the hackathon, with team members available in Manchester to coach app developers in API management and help troubleshoot any potential issues.

Roberto Medrano, executive vice president of Akana, commented: “This is an ambitious hackathon. We’re pleased to be once again, collaborating closely with Barclays to support this event.”
