Special Report: Banking Apps under the spotlight

There is no clear winner when it comes to the best banking application for customers, according to research by Accenture.

However, in analysis of banks from around the world, Accenture found that some banks are moving towards this so-far elusive top spot.

The key elements that customers are looking for in a mobile banking experience were judged by Accenture to be usability; understanding of how, when, where and why the mobile device is being used; bespoke qualities – with apps being an extension of the online experience and not just a replica; and taking into account technological limitations, such as slow internet connections and crashes.

Accenture revealed the worldwide leaders as the BBVA Personal Finance Services, which gives customers advice along with their banking; the Commonwealth Bank Home Loans iPhone App, which allows customers to look at real-world property using the iPhone camera; and the Banc Sabadell iPad-dedicated version of its mobile banking services, the first iPad-specific mobile banking app.

As a result of the research, Accenture has launched a set of off-the-shelf apps for banks, which can be used alongside existing systems. The suite includes leading edge apps for personal loan products as well as customer advice apps, such as finance and retirement planners.
