Samsung launches first credit card with Galaxy rewards programme

Samsung has launched a branded credit card which integrates directly with its payment app, marking its first foray into financial services provision.

The Samsung Galaxy Card is issued by Barclays US Consumer Bank on the Visa network. Customers in the US can apply for the card from 22 July, with eligible early access customers able to apply ahead of the public launch.

The company said it integrates directly with Samsung Wallet and offers cashback on everyday spending and Samsung purchases, adding that it marks its latest effort to strengthen its ecosystem by combining payments, digital wallets and customer rewards.

The card offers five per cent cashback on eligible purchases made directly with Samsung, three per cent on purchases made through Samsung Wallet, two per cent on selected streaming services and one per cent on all other spending. Customers who pre-order Samsung's next
Galaxy smartphone using the card will also receive five per cent cashback.

The card is available as both virtually and as a physical metal card.

Samsung said the card is designed to work seamlessly within its wider ecosystem while benefiting from the company's Knox security platform.

Woncheol Chai, executive vice president and head of the Digital Wallet Team at Samsung's Mobile eXperience Business, said the launch gives customers another way to benefit from using Samsung products.

“For years, users have relied on Samsung products to enhance their daily life,” he said. “Today, Samsung Galaxy Card offers users a new way to be rewarded every time you pay.”
The launch also expands Samsung's partnership with Barclays, which provides the banking infrastructure behind the new product.

Denny Nealon, chief executive of Barclays US Consumer Bank, said the collaboration reflects growing demand for financial products that integrate into digital ecosystems.

“Together, we're creating seamless, rewarding digital banking capabilities and products that meet customers where they are: in their Samsung Wallet,” he said.
The card is currently available only in the US and Samsung has not announced plans to expand the product to other markets.
