Rabobank has announced plans to invest up to €2 billion in AI and its IT systems over the next three years, in an effort it hopes will meet customer needs and improve its operations.
In the bank’s interim statement Stefaan Decraen, chief executive at Rabobank, said: “Artificial intelligence, data and other new technologies will further transform the way we work. To take full advantage of these developments, and most of all to meet evolving customer expectations, we will invest up to 2 billion euros in strengthening our Data & IT foundation, enhancing customer experience and scaling AI.”
The Utrecht-headquartered bank reported total income of €8.52 billion in the year to June 2026, an increase of six per cent, with a net profit of €2.69 billion over the same period.
Rabobank has made several major AI partnerships and investments to date. In August 2025, it began to use Microsoft Copilot Studio for its customer-facing conversational chatbot. This involved a migration from its previous platform, which was partially on-premises, and the creation of three text-based agents over the course of three months.
In June 2026, Rabobank established an “Agentic Hub”, a new internal initiative the bank said would help it to “develop AI into a core capability”. The Agentic Hub will bring together information on best practices, as well as pre-built agentic AI tools, to streamline the bank’s rollout of the technology across its 1,100 software development teams.
It also announced an extension to its seven-year partnership with Expert.ai, an Italian developer behind the EidenAI Suite that combines large language models, neural networking tools, machine learning, and knowledge graphs for enterprise deployment.
In parallel to its AI efforts, Rabobank is modernising its cloud environment in partnership with Informatica, SAP, and Cognizant. The bank has said the work will help lay the foundation for more data analytics and AI deployment, underpinned by improved data quality, metadata, and data lineage.
