HSBC has appointed Ida Liu as chief executive of HSBC Private Bank.
Liu joins from Citi Private Bank, where she spent more than 18 years in senior roles and most recently served as global head.
At Citi, she led the global franchise advising ultra‑high net worth clients on complex investment, liquidity and succession needs. She began her career in investment banking, working with Fortune 500 companies on mergers and acquisitions and capital markets strategies.
Over a 25‑year career, Liu has spent more than half her time in Asia, with experience across wealth management, strategic advisory and business transformation.
In her new role at HSBC, Liu will focus on deepening the bank’s leadership among ultra‑high net worth clients, strengthening cross‑border connectivity across key wealth corridors and accelerating global growth of the Private Bank.
She will report to Barry O’Byrne, chief executive officer of HSBC International Wealth and Premier Banking.
“We are delighted to welcome Ida to the team. She brings deep expertise in strategic wealth advisory, operational transformation and business growth, and a consistent track record of delivering results,” O’Byrne said. “Her appointment reflects our ambition to further strengthen the Private Bank as the partner of choice for the world’s most sophisticated entrepreneurs and families.”
