ABN Amro forms partnership with Mistral AI

ABN Amro has announced a partnership with Mistral AI to develop AI powered solutions for the bank.

Through the collaboration, ABN Amro will have access to Mistral’s Frontier AI lab, which will provide frontier AI capabilities developed and governed in Europe.

The Dutch private bank said the move will reduce dependence on non-European technology providers.

As organisations with strong European roots, the companies said they share a commitment to advancing Europe's financial, economic, and digital resilience.

The collaboration combines ABN Amro’s banking expertise with Mistral's advanced, independent AI capabilities. Together, the companies will develop high-impact AI applications that meet the bank's standards for security, transparency, privacy and regulatory compliance; and that are aligned with European values.

“Partnering with Mistral allows us to leverage state of the art AI capabilities while committing to trusted European innovation,” said Carsten Bittner, chief innovation and technology officer at ABN Amro. “In a rapidly changing world, Europe's ability to remain digitally resilient, competitive and strategically autonomous is more important than ever.

“Together, we are helping build a safer and more innovative future for our customers, businesses and society.”

Marjorie Janiewicz, chief revenue officer at Mistral, said: “[DK1.1]ABN Amro is one of Europe's most forward-thinking financial institutions. Their commitment to building AI on their own terms – with full control, full transparency, and a clear view of the value it creates – is exactly the standard we believe every major European institution should set. We are proud to be their partner in that ambition.”
