HSBC hit by online problems again

It was a case of déjà vu all over again (to quote baseball legend Yogi Berra) for HSBC customers yesterday as they experienced problems with internet banking.

Last month, customers were unable to access their first direct online accounts or use cash machines, following a mainframe outage.

The bank posted a number of updates on Twitter during the course of yesterday afternoon, including: "We’ve noticed some people may be having issues accessing Internet Banking. We are working on this and will let you know when it is sorted."

By late evening, it tweeted: "Access to Personal Internet Banking is now fully restored. Thank you all for your patience."

HSBC blamed the glitch on slow running servers and stressed that there was no connection with the problems experienced during November.
