DBBL selects Sybase 365 for m-banking

Bangladesh bank Dutch-Bangla Bank Limited (DBBL) is utilising the Sybase 365 m-banking platform. There are around 160 million people in Bangladesh, of which only 13 per cent have bank accounts. DBBL is looking to reach the rural and unbanked population, of which 45 per cent are mobile phone users.

“Sybase 365’s platform allows us to deliver the best possible mobile banking services to our customers,” says Abul Kashem Md. Shirin, deputy managing director, DBBL. “Bank-led mobile banking is the standard worldwide and we hope that efforts to pioneer m-banking will propel other banks to adopt similar services and accelerate the process of financial inclusion in other developing markets.”

DBBL is currently working on a next phase of services, allowing customers to conduct mobile airtime top-up, merchant payment and micro financing from their mobiles.
