Wirecard & O2 offer MPoS in Czech Republic
Written by Chris Lemmon
O2 Czech Republic has partnered with payment service provider Wirecard to offer a unified mobile point of sale (MPoS) solution to retailers in the Czech Republic.
The product, called eKasa, is a fully online, tablet-based till system together with credit card payment transaction services. The move by 02 is the first time the telecoms operator has moved into the MPoS market.
Through the partnership, Wirecard will act as the acquirer that processes all payment transactions, as well as the technical service provider which enables O2 to use Wirecard’s MPoS software developing kit.
A new till system law has recently been implemented in the Czech Republic requiring retailers to conclude payment transactions online. Payment details are then forwarded to the national tax office where they are reviewed to combat tax fraud.
O2 and Wirecard noted that their new MPoS alternative to fixed till systems was suitable for merchants, companies and self-employed people who are now affected by the new government regulations.
Roland Toch, managing director at Wirecard CEE, said: “We are delighted to work with O2 on this large volume project. The new combination that includes services from both parties enables retailers to benefit from powerful payment management features as they can simply repurpose a tablet to a new checkout device. That optimises the processes and reduces costs at the same time.”
