Robinhood has launched cryptocurrency trading for UK customers, expanding its investment platform to let users buy and sell more than 50 digital assets alongside stocks, ISAs, options, and futures in its app.
The US FinTech said the service, which is being rolled out to eligible UK customers this week, will be provided through Bitstamp UK Ltd, its regulated crypto business in the UK.
The company said customers will be able to trade cryptocurrencies including Bitcoin, Ethereum, XRP and Hyperliquid without trading fees, account maintenance charges or custody fees. However, users will still pay foreign exchange fees on transactions.
Robinhood said the launch is designed to offer a lower-cost alternative to some established UK crypto platforms, claiming that many of its competitors rely on wider spreads and more complex pricing structures that can increase trading costs.
Jordan Sinclair, president of Robinhood U.K. Ltd and general manager of Bitstamp UK Ltd, said: “A new wave of UK investors sees digital assets as an important part of a diversified portfolio. With today's launch, we're taking another major step toward becoming the all-in-one investment platform for the UK.”
Alongside the trading service, Robinhood has introduced Robinhood Cortex Digests for Crypto, an AI-powered feature that explains the factors behind cryptocurrency price movements.
Using generative AI, Robinhood said the tool analyses breaking news, market data, technical indicators, and Robinhood's own insights to provide users with summaries of market activity in “plain English”.
The launch also builds on Robinhood's broader crypto strategy. UK developers can build applications using Robinhood Chain, the company's Layer 2 blockchain platform built on Arbitrum. Robinhood said the platform has generated more than $18 billion in decentralised exchange trading volume and surpassed $840 million in total value locked since its global launch in July.
Robinhood added that it will continue expanding its educational resources through Robinhood Learn and its Help Centre, while offering 24/7 in-app customer support.
