The free security software initiative, carried out in conjunction with Kaspersky Labs, is intended to battle the growing menance of phishing attacks and other online threats that potentially compromise the continued growth of online banking. The initiative follows on from Barclays rollout of over one million PINsentry two-factor authentication readers to online customers last year. “We believe our online customers now enjoy one of the best security packages around,” said Barclays director of digital banking, Sean Gilchrist, commenting on the Kaspersky initiative. • In a separate move, Barclays Bank is also licensing encryption technology from PGP Corporation to safeguard personal data across its worldwide retail and commercial banking operations. The PGP encryption technology rollout, which will begin later this year, will eventually reach 50 countries in which Barclays has retail banking operations and the scalable platform can be adapted to meet the audit, compliance and data security requirements of individual jurisdictions, claim the bank. "The robust enterprise-wide key management solution is capable of supporting our specific complexities,” says Rick Carey, Barclays retail COO, explaining the rationale behind the move.
