‘Mini bank’ concept goes live in Kuwait

Boubyan Bank has launched its first mini bank branch at Kuwait International Airport, featuring video teller technology.

The Kuwaiti bank has installed NCR’s Interactive Teller machine, which will operate from 8am to 2am seven days a week, and offer 95 per cent of the teller services typically available at a full-size branch.

The ATM-based technology allows people to talk with a live remote teller, and gives the teller remote control over the machine to conduct transactions such as cash deposits, dispensing money in specific denominations, transferring funds between accounts, and accepting cash or cheques.

In addition to the traditional card and PIN authentication method, the NCR machine is also equipped with a UV-enabled civil ID scanner and signature pad to identify and authenticate consumers, and request their approval to conduct transactions.

Fahd Al-Fawzan, general manager of sales and distribution channels at Boubyan Bank, said: “The first mini bank will initially be available at Boubyan’s branch at Kuwait International Airport, but the bank is planning to roll out more NCR Interactive Teller machines throughout other prime locations in the country based on feedback from our customers, whom we are continually in touch with through social media.”

George Flouros, vice president for NCR Financial Services in the Middle East/Africa region, added: “As the first bank in Kuwait to deploy NCR Interactive Teller, Boubyan Bank will be able to use this remote assisted service technology to meet their customers’ needs and provide them with a differentiated and exceptional experience.”
