FST Datacentre Excellence III conference report

The London Stock Exchange played host to the third FST Datacentre Excellence Conference on 4 April. With the financial markets struggling in the wake of the credit crunch, making IT budgets increasingly tight, the event produced calls for better management, monitoring and efficiency. Mark Evans reports

The third Datacentre Excellence Conference (DCEIII), organised by Financial Sector Technology magazine, brought together several key strands essential to the future development of effective facilities, with topics such as regulation, carbon emissions, personnel, management and technology all being addressed by the day's speakers,
which included representatives from Citi and Borsa Italiana. Perhaps the main lesson of the day was that all of
these issues really do connect together, and while individuals may have certain specialisms, they must at least
appreciate the 'bigger picture' – something that is true not only of direct datacentre (DC) personnel, but also in the
wider context of the organisation, including the boardroom and senior managers.
