The judging panel for the FST Awards 2008, to be held on 27 March at the London Marriott Hotel, Grosvenor Square, London, has been announced. It includes a number of well known and respected industry representatives. The judges are looking forward to receiving your nominations and reviewing the advances and innovations made over the last year

Tony Harrop - Chief Technology Officer, LiquidityHub

Tony is now working at LiquidityHub, a multi-distributor, multi-dealer liquidity aggregator for the fixed income market. Owned and operated by a consortium of 16 leading banks, including HSBC, RBS, Société Générale and JPMorgan, the aim of the project is to take advantage of the changing landscape of the financial markets and aggregate liquidity and market data in support of electronic trading.

Previously, Tony worked at Detica in the consultancy’s Capital Markets Sector where he was charged with keeping abreast of the latest developments, and producing thought-leading solutions and ideas within the investment banking domain. He has worked for over 20 years as a consultant both in the UK, Central Europe and the US and has led projects at many blue-chip organisations, including Tier One Investment Banks such as Citigroup. Tony is keen to hear of innovative uses of technology that have really facilitated changes in the way businesses work and, as such, is looking forward to seeing the entries in the FST Awards 2008.

Leonard H. Schrank – Chairman of Act3 Technologies Inc and CEO of SWIFT 1992-2007

A well known industry figure from his time in charge at SWIFT, the industry-owned financial messaging system, Lenny is now devoting his energies to Act3 Technologies Inc, where he is the co-founder, Chairman and CEO. The new company is seeking to transform the Internet into a ‘Web 3.0’ space where commerce is secure, rights are respected, and advertising is effective. Leonard served as CEO at SWIFT until April 2007. During his 15-year tenure, message traffic grew seven-fold; prices dropped 80%; system availability achieved 5x9s reliability; and three major market segments were targeted for future growth – securities, market infrastructures for clearing and settlement, and corporate treasury. In addition, a new IP messaging platform, SWIFTNet, was launched; resilience raised; and debt reduced to zero. In 2001, The Wall Street Journal called SWIFT "one of the dominant franchises of our network age".

Previously Lenny worked in London as the head of Chase Manhattan Bank’s Interactive Data Corporation, a global information and computer services company. He joined Chase/IDC in 1977, when it acquired the software company he co-founded in 1970 with four fellow MIT partners and graduates. He was President of the American Chamber of Commerce in Belgium from 1998-2007 and is currently a member of the ICT advisory board of GIMV, a Belgian venture capital fund; and a member of the Board Strategy Committee of Wisekey, a Swiss Internet security infrastructure firm. A frequent speaker at Sibos, Lenny is also a regular participant at the Davos World Economic Forum and Microsoft’s CEO Summit.

Peter Golden – Chairman of the British Computer Society’s Financial Services Specialist Group (BCS FinSig)

Peter heads up the BCS’ FinSig group whose aim is to identify and promote good practice in the design, development and use of financial services IT systems and to support research and the development of cross-industry standards. For his day job Peter works as a consultant for the jmg partnership and is an accomplished IT strategist, technical architect, programme director, CI(T)O and technologist. He has 35 years experience in systems development, business analysis and IT strategy and hands-on experience in senior management roles. With 25 years experience specifically in the financial services sector, Peter has worked for investment, retail and commercial banks, stock exchanges, and independent software vendors. He has extensive international experience including residential periods in Switzerland, Belgium and the US. He was formerly IT Director for BZW (now Barclays Capital) and VP for trading systems at Citibank.

Barry Holland – Advisor to FST magazine & ex-Director of Operations, Barclays Capital (now retired)

Barry joined Barclays Capital in 1975 and moved around the group covering different areas such as Factoring & Leasing, Group Treasury and Treasury Operations, where he rose to the position of Director of Operations. After 30 years with Barclays he decided to retire in September 2005. Barry still maintains a keen interest in the Financial Services sector, however, and is looking forward to seeing some old friends at the FST Awards and to acting as our impartial industry representative and roving industry expert.

During his time at Barclays, Barry had responsibility for all money market and Foreign Exchange (FX) operational and settlement issues for London. He also dealt with all FX issues for New York. Barry was very active with the CLS system (Continuous Link Settlement) in his role as project manager for the Barclays CLS project and he oversaw the smooth implementation of the project within Barclays Capital. He chaired the CLS London & European User Group, an active forum of banks that meets regularly to discuss, debate and plan implementation and operational business details for CLS. He also sat on the CLS Services Board. As a member of the London Investment Banking Association Treasury Operations Committee, Barry was also involved with the Bank of England Money Market Liaison Group. He was actively involved with the development and implementation of Real Time information within Barclays Capital, ensuring that controls, cash and liquidity management and client service were all enhanced.
