Leonard H. Schrank –
Chairman of Act3 Technologies Inc and CEO of SWIFT 1992-2007
A well known industry figure from his time in charge at
SWIFT, the industry-owned financial messaging system, Lenny is now
devoting his energies to Act3 Technologies Inc, where he is the
co-founder, Chairman and CEO. The new company
is seeking to transform the Internet into a ‘Web 3.0’
space where commerce is secure, rights are respected, and advertising
is effective. Leonard
served as CEO at SWIFT until April 2007. During his 15-year tenure,
message traffic grew seven-fold; prices dropped 80%; system availability
achieved 5x9s reliability; and three major market segments were targeted
for future growth – securities, market infrastructures for clearing
and settlement, and corporate treasury. In addition, a new IP messaging
platform, SWIFTNet, was launched; resilience raised; and debt reduced
to zero. In 2001, The Wall Street Journal called SWIFT "one
of the dominant franchises of our network age".
Previously Lenny worked in London as the head of Chase Manhattan Bank’s
Interactive Data Corporation, a global information and computer services
company. He joined Chase/IDC in 1977, when it acquired the software
company he co-founded in 1970 with four fellow MIT partners and graduates.
He was President of the American Chamber of Commerce in Belgium from
1998-2007 and is currently a member of the ICT advisory board of GIMV,
a Belgian venture capital fund; and a member of the Board Strategy
Committee of Wisekey, a Swiss Internet security infrastructure firm.
A frequent speaker at Sibos, Lenny is also a regular participant at
the Davos World Economic Forum and Microsoft’s CEO Summit.
